Co-op is a competitive program; make sure to review the eligibility requirements and the application process.  Acceptance is not guaranteed.

Eligibility and General Requirements

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

  • Bachelor of Applied Science must have 2nd or 3rd year standing for the upcoming Winter session
  • Bachelor of Design must have 3rd year standing for the upcoming Winter session
  • Must be registered as a full-time student for both Terms 1 and 2 of the Winter session (minimum 9 credits per term)
  • Must have a minimum cumulative average of 65%
  • We do not accept students with 4th year standing
  • In addition, you need to:
    • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Demonstrate co-op career motivation, maturity, professionalism, and readiness for growth
    • Show a willingness to relocate for co-op work terms
    • Commit to apply to a broad range of positions
    • Abide by the Applied Science Co-op Program Terms & Conditions

MASTER of ENGINEERING STUDENTS

  • MUST be commencing the Master of Engineering degree program in September 2024. We do not accept MASc or PhD students
  • Must be registered as a full-time student for both Terms 1 and 2 of the Winter session
  • Master of Engineering students studying at UBC Okanagan are not required to apply through this application process. MEng Okanagan internships will be facilitated by the Co-op Office and students in this program will be contacted directly by the co-op office in September with instructions on how to participate in the internship program.
  •  In addition, you need to:
    • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Demonstrate co-op career motivation, maturity, professionalism, and readiness for growth
    • Show a willingness to relocate for co-op work terms
    • Commit to apply to a broad range of related positions
    • Abide by the Applied Science Co-op Program Terms & Conditions

Application Process

  1. Complete online application: Application links for the Bachelor of Applied Science, Master of Engineering, or Bachelor of Design self-enrolling Canvas course will be available in  August 2024.
  2. Successful admission: If you are successfully admitted, you will be notified by email and you are required to:
    i. Pay the co-op administration and workshop fee upon admission before you can attend the workshops
    ii. Participate in mandatory co-op workshops beginning in October
    iii. Apply for a co-op work permit (international students only)

Master of Engineering – UBC Okanagan Master of Engineering students studying at UBC Okanagan are not required to apply through this application process. Most virtual sessions are open to UBC Vancouver and Okanagan Bachelor of Applied Science, and Master of Engineering. Bachelor of Design in Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urbanism students will have one dedicated info session.  No registration is required to attend, and the sessions will not be recorded.

*An International Student Advisor will be available in certain sessions to present additional information pertinent to prospective international co-op students after the Co-op presentation. All students are encouraged to attend if this date/time works best for you, and for internationals students to stay for the international information portion of the presentation.
