Co-op is a competitive program; make sure to review the eligibility requirements and the application process.  Acceptance is not guaranteed.

Eligibility and General Requirements

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

  • Must have 2nd or 3rd year standing
  • Must be registered full time student for 2020 Winter session
  • Achieved a minimum cumulative average of 65%
  • In addition, you need to:
    • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Demonstrate co-op career motivation and maturity
    • Show willingness to relocate for engineering co-op work terms
    • Commit to apply to a broad range of related engineering discipline positions
    • Abide by the Engineering Co-op Program Terms and Conditions

MASTERS STUDENTS

  • Must have first-year standing in the Faculty of Applied Science Master of Engineering program
  •  In addition, you need to:
    • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Demonstrate co-op career motivation and maturity
    • Show willingness to relocate for engineering co-op work terms
    • Commit to apply to a broad range of related engineering discipline positions
    • Abide by the Engineering Co-op Program Terms and Conditions

Application Process

  1. Complete online application – Select the appropriate link for the Undergraduate or Master of Engineering self-enrolling Canvas course.  Complete the entire course to have your application considered.
  2. Application review and intake interview – After completing application, your application will be reviewed and if successful, you will be contacted for an admission interview as part of the application process.
  3. Successful admissionIf you are successfully admitted, you will be notified by email and you are required to:
    – pay the co-op administration and workshop fee upon admission before you can attend the workshops; and
    – participate in mandatory co-op workshops beginning late October

*Incomplete and late applications will NOT be considered.

The UBC Co-op Program reserves the right to update, modify or revise the admission process without notice, including the right to request additional information or request an interview with any applicant. The intake process can change depending on the number of qualified applicants, discipline and academic standing.

All virtual sessions are open to UBC Vancouver and Okanagan Applied Science undergraduate and Master of Engineering students.  Registration for scheduled sessions will open on August 12, 2020. Register HERE.

**We encourage international prospective co-op students to register for the September 10th afternoon or evening session as we will have a guest speaker from International Student Advising. The International Student Advisor will be giving information that will be important for potential international students in co-op such as work permits, resources, and impacts of COVID-19 to international co-op students.

Master of Engineering - UBC Okanagan MEng Okanagan students are not required to apply through this application process.  MEng Okanagan internships will be facilitated by the Co-op Office: however, internship registration will be carried out by the School of Engineering.
